Here’s a quick round up of some of the blogs I’ve either just discovered, or have particularly enjoyed this week. In no particular order…
LETTERS OF NOTE
What Shaun says about his blog: “Letters of Note is an attempt to gather and sort fascinating letters, postcards, telegrams, faxes, and memos. Scans/photos where possible. Fakes will be sneered at. Updated every weekday. Edited by Shaun Usher .”
What I love about Shaun’s blog: His choices of letters to include are nothing short of brilliant, each one a pearl in its own right, giving us glimpses into the minds of others at moments of great triumph, tragedy, fury or hilarity. Anyone interested in understanding the illusive notion of a writer’s voice need look no further. http://www.lettersofnote.com/2010/02/greatest-novel-ive-ever-written.html
CARRY A POEM
What they say about their project: “Rory Bremner carries his in his head. Lorraine Kelly pins hers to her jacket. How do you carry yours? In your wallet? In your pocket? On your Ipod? We want you to share how you carry a poem – or find a new poem to carry this February.”
What I love about this project: In a word, everything. Edinburgh is the UNESCO City of Literature, and with this project they are giving it some serious laldy. For years I’ve been meaning to follow the lead of my friend Agnès and commit a selection of Baudelaire’s poems to memory. Inspired by this project maybe this is the year I’m finally doing it. Care to join me? I’d love to hear what poems you’re carrying in your heart or your pocket. http://carryapoem.com/
INVISIBLE PARIS
What Adam says about his blog: “A celebration of the parts of Paris that would be refused entry to the ville musée if they tried to get in today.”
What I love about Adam’s blog: Like Gertrude Stein, I labour under the delusion that Paris is my home town, so until relatively recently, I would have assumed that any Paris blog was a good thing. But then I began writing crime fiction set in Paris, and so actively seeking out Paris blogs and I quickly discovered that very few are of genuine interest. Instead of offering food for thought to the reader, too many of them concentrate on whatever food the author has just ingested. But with Invisible Paris, Adam is serving up course after course of intriguing Parisian observations and history and inviting us to think about this breathtaking city in new and intriguing ways. Definitely one of the best blogs I’ve found in a long time, even though it is a constant temptation to book just one more Eurostar ticket…Plus, you can download cool walking tours. Vive le Paris Invisible! Vive Adam! http://parisisinvisible.blogspot.com/2010/02/something-for-weekend-12th-14th.html
EURO CRIME
What Karen says about her blog: “Snippets about British and other European crime fiction, tv and film.”
What I love about Karen’s blog: As a chronic Euro Crime junkie, just seeing the name of this blog quickened my pulse. And with good reason. Karen is a library assistant who has her eye on everything I feel I ought to be reading and watching, and is generously laying down clues to things I’ve not yet heard of, as well as collating reviews on all of the above from a wide range of sources. Karen is the Interpol of Euro Crime blogging. http://eurocrime.blogspot.com/
I too think Euro crime (blog and website) is great. It has completely transformed my reading, and Karen does a wonderful job there, purely a labour of love.
Cheers Maxine! It truly is a fab site…the only trouble is finding the time to read all the MUST reads Karen is tempting me with!
